4628 Is High Fructose Corn Syrup Really Bad For Us?

My audience will be my peers, instructor, and a company that is currently using this product in their products.

What to accomplish:

  • Why it is so bad for us
  • How does the body process it
  • That scientific research supports my topic
  • That doctors and researchers support this idea
  • The average in take of this product is by an individual
  • Test results
  • Why it’s different then regular sugar
  • How it affects the receptors in the brain
  • How are body treats it differently
  • The number of products that have it in it.
  • How it came about to be used in products rather than sugar.

Questions my audience may have:

  • Why is it bad for us
  • Has there been any long term studies
  • If not what information do you have to support it
  • How is it different than regular sugars
  • What is high fructose corn syrup
  • What do you do for a living
  • What makes me have this stand on the product
  • Is it only harmful in large quantities
  • Why should we remove it from or product

This question started from reading an article about obesity in CQ. Then I remembered reading an article about high fructose corn syrup and the controversy it has been getting. I am very interested in learning about the pros and cons of this product. I have very little prior experience with the issue other than seeing it on TV, reading an article, and discussing it with peers. My research needs to support that it is bad for us to consumer in large quantities. My current position on this topic is that I believe it can be harmful to our health. I believe our body does not truly recognize the chemical break down of the product and that it confuses our rectors. I also believe this is not the only product out here that in added to our food that we are not sure about the long term effect of them. I know other out there feel the same way I do about this product. It has become very controversial over the past year or two and has been blamed for the obesity epidemic. It has also had some negative media in relation to overall health issues. I have had discussions with people at work strong those feelings about its negative affects it has on the body. Once my research is completed I hope to be able to covey a clear message about this product. I work in the health care industry and it is very important to me to have all the facts and watch not only what I am eating but those I care about as well.

    Peer Review Assignment

Your choice of topic is very fresh. I do not believe anyone else is writing anything like this. Its good to pick a topic that has never been done before. Good job! However, this also may be a bit of a problem because your topic could be too narrow. You might want to broaden your topic by writing on more than one thing that could be harmful to your health. For example, your topic could be: “Things that we consume everyday that people don’t know are harming them.” You could include a lot of various studdies that have been done on specific things that have proven to be harmful. This would give you a lot more to go on. However, this is just a suggestion because I do not know much about this topic and maybe there is a great deal of information about it that you could use in the paper.

I also like the fact that you work in the health industry. That means you have a lot invested in your topic. This is always a good thing because I believe the more you care about your topic, the better your paper will be.

I would also suggest writing this in more of an essay form rather than in a bullet form. This will probably give you more structural points in the grading. You did a very good job in adressing the questions that the audience might ask, as all those questions were ones that I had.

Make sure that when you write this paper you explain the topic in a lot of detail. I believe that most people know very little if anything about this topic and it would be very helpful to them if it was explained in great detail. Also be sure to define all scientific words that you use, and any biological processes (for those of us who need to study up on our biology :) This will greatly help the readers in understanding your topic. I would like to know more on how you are going to go about researching this topic, for instance if there are any particular case studdies you are going to use, or any particular experiments that have been done.

Overall, I really like the topic you have chosen and believe that this is going to be a very successful paper. I look forward to reading it.

Wow, I don’t know what to eat anymore, between Dustin’s issue of trans fat and the topic you’ve chosen. If it were me, I would give a good definition of what it is, frankly I don’t know much of the subject. Is there a difference between the high fructose and normal corn syrup? I am also wondering what “confusing the rectors” is all about? Is it a nerve thing or some type of intestinal problem? How long has this been a problem and who actually discovered it? What illnesses other than obesity is it linked to, like heart disease or tissue deterioration? Those are a few ideas you might want to answer, for the layman folk, such as myself, who are kind of ignorant of this problem. Though it sounds like it is right up your alley, since your in the health industry. I do believe that American’s will have to reconsider their diet soon. Anyway look forward to reading the final draft, I can use the info, especially since its the second or third ingredient in my favorite drink (mountain dew). Good luck with it.
